Project Description
BRAVO-VETS: Supporting Justice-Involved Veterans Through Health & Rehabilitation
At the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR), we are committed to research that fosters health, well-being, and social reintegration. BRAVO-VETS (Brain Injury Resource Facilitation And Veteran Outreach for Criminal-Justice-Involved Veterans) is a pioneering project aimed at helping veterans in the justice system navigate the challenges of traumatic brain injuries (TBI), mental health disorders, and social reintegration.
Research Overview
BRAVO-VETS provides:
- Comprehensive screenings to identify TBIs and mental health needs in veterans involved in the criminal justice system
- Resource facilitation and support services, including mental health treatment, housing, and vocational assistance
- Collaborative partnerships with state agencies and community organizations to deliver holistic, evidence-based interventions
Why It Matters
Veterans with TBI and mental health disorders are at a significantly higher risk of incarceration, homelessness, and suicide. By identifying needs early and connecting veterans with essential resources, BRAVO-VETS works to reduce recidivism, improve well-being, and empower veterans to successfully reintegrate into society.
